Project Description
PARENTS
We understand that you are proud of your son or daughter’s accomplishments and eager to see them succeed in this introductory phase of a possible career or lifelong interest in science.
The role of parents is to support their child’s independent efforts — not to take over the project. Your challenge is to provide just enough guidance to allow your child’s work to remain at the center of the project, while offering helpful ideas and resources to elevate their efforts.
Please Keep the Following in Mind:
-
Review the Policy and Procedure Manual and all materials provided by your child’s science teacher (sponsor) regarding project requirements.
-
Encourage your child while brainstorming project ideas. Be sure you clearly understand the requirements before approving a topic.
-
Support your child during the research process and while conducting the experiment.
-
Familiarize yourself with all safety guidelines and ensure they are followed.
-
Assist in obtaining necessary experimental materials.
-
Provide guidance, if needed, in preparing the display board and presentation.
-
Celebrate successes and take time to reflect on areas for improvement.
-
Be aware that special award judges may apply different selection criteria.
-
If you have questions, contact your child’s science teacher (sponsor), or encourage your child to do so.
In all stages of the competition, the judges’ decisions are final.
SPONSORS AND TEACHERS
Participating schools are required to provide one judge for every two projects submitted.
Example: If a school submits 10 projects, it must provide 5 judges.

-
Utilize a checklist to track progress.
-
-
Assisting with the technical aspects of project and research paper preparation.
