Math Olympics History

Project Info

Project Description

  • Origins: The event began as part of the Concept Schools Science and Engineering Fair (CONSEF), which started over 20 years ago.

  • Growth: As Concept Schools expanded from a small network in Ohio to a large organization across the Midwest (IL, OH, MO, IN, MI, WI), the event grew from a simple science fair into “STEMCON”—a massive expo.

  • Role Change: Originally, math was just a small side category. Over time, it evolved into the “Math Olympics,” a standalone pillar of the convention equal in prestige to the Robotics and Science competitions.

  • Prestige: Winning a medal at the Math Olympics is considered a high honor within the network because the competitor pool is already filtered to include only the best math students from each school.
