CONCEPT SCHOOLS STEM EXPOSITION

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

The CS STEM Exposition is an event designed to encourage students to showcase the results of their STEM studies and scientific work. The purpose of the exposition is to help students apply their knowledge and understanding of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to conduct in-depth, real-world investigations. It also provides students with an opportunity to practice and enhance their presentation skills.

The CS STEM Expo is open to all students, parents, and community members to enjoy hands-on activities and explore the excitement and opportunities that science offers.

The guidelines below provide a step-by-step procedure for submission.

A. DEFINITION

A demonstration is a scientific experiment conducted to illustrate scientific principles rather than to test a hypothesis or gather new knowledge. Demonstrations will be selected based on their educational merit and entertainment value.

Students are encouraged to use their knowledge and creativity to build a model or prototype that demonstrates their learning. The quality of a demonstration will be evaluated based on the following factors:

  • Content and review of the main scientific concept (literature review)

  • Materials used

  • Model/prototype (if applicable)

  • Oral presentation

B. PARTICIPATION

  1. The CS STEM Exposition is open to all students in grades 5 through 12, including public, private, charter, and homeschool students throughout the Midwest.

  2. Schools may submit as many presentations as they wish.

  3. Participation is free for both schools and students.

  4. Student demonstrations are subject to a selection process. Those selected by the CS STEM Expo Committee will qualify to present their demonstrations during the event.

  5. Demonstrations may be presented individually or by a team of two students.

  6. A student participating in the CS STEM Expo may not participate in CONSEF’s Project Session.

  7. The same student cannot participate in both CONSEF’s Project Session and the CS STEM Expo simultaneously.

  8. A table (maximum 6 feet) will be provided for each presenter. Requests for additional space are subject to committee approval.

C. CATEGORIES

CS STEM Expo categories include all science, technology, engineering, and mathematics subjects.

D. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  1. A video recording with clear sound and video quality is required.

  2. Video recordings must not exceed 5 minutes.

  3. Recorded demonstrations must be uploaded to the school’s official YouTube account.

  4. Schools determine which students are eligible for CS STEM Expo submission.

  5. Eligible students must complete the CS STEM Expo online registration form and paste the YouTube link to their demonstration.

  6. Qualified presenters will be announced by the CS STEM Expo Committee.

  7. Students selected to present during the CS STEM Expo must also submit a Consent Form and a Safety Assessment Form.

a. Knowledge Gained – 10 points
The student demonstrates a strong understanding of the topic and mastery of scientific skills.

b. Oral Presentation – 10 points
The presentation is clear and concise. The student speaks fluently, maintains eye contact, is polite, shows enthusiasm, and does not rely heavily on note cards.

c. Entertainment Value – 5 points
The content and execution of the presentation engage the audience and provide an enjoyable experience.
